Eastern Phoebe

The Eastern Phoebe is a member of the flycatcher family. The Eastern Phoebe populations are on the rise.

SIZE

Small (6-7”) songbird.
DESCRIPTION They have dark gray-brown upperparts, lighter underparts and slightly darker wings and tail.

Sexes are similar in appearance.

NESTING Clutch size ranges from 4-5 eggs, which are incubated in 13 to 16 days.  They build an mud-and-grass open cup nest, lined with moss and grass. It is usually attached to a building, bridge or cliff.
RANGE They are normally found in central Canada and east of Rockies. They Winter in the southeastern USA, Gulf Coast, Mexico and Central America.
HABITAT They habitat open woodland, farmland, urban and suburban areas, often near water.
DIET This Eastern Phoebes is insectivorous, and often perches conspicuously when seeking insects, but will also eat fruit, berries and seeds, if insects are scarce.

INTERESTING FACTS
Albinism

This is the total lack of pigment on the body, so that a full albino has white feathers and pink eyes. Example: albino sparrow.
